Yesterday Kadizzle had a conversation with an owner of a small business. The man was struggling economically. Our discussion revolved around wages. The wages of working people have just not kept up. In 1976 Kadizzle started a job after two years of graduate school. The hourly rate was about $13. However, the job was with Conoco. Conoco owned Consolidation Coal Company. Conoco was a wonderful company to work for. Conoco cared about it's people. In addition to a wage, the company provided a very good investment plan, health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, and kept employees up with inflation. Once when inflation was raging Conoco sent out a letter no one knew was coming saying all employees would get a 25% raise.
Those days are gone. Workers today struggle, companies don't care. Companies are bought and sold and the employees are treated like cattle. Republicans do everything in their power to beat the working man into poverty. Destroying unions was a key to keeping working people poor. Add to that a tax structure that overwhelmingly favors the rich. As if all this was not enough Republicans want to destroy social security and the healthcare system. The greed of the Republicans is unbridled.
Once upon a time a man working could support his family, no more. With husband and wife working they still cannot make it.
Kadizzle was very fortunate. We both worked, saved and retired at 50. Now, Kadizzle sees his children making very good wages, but they cannot save like we did. Mrs Kadizzle worked on and off doing a variety of seasonal jobs. Our eldest daughter and her husband both have well paying professional jobs. What was a burden for them and is for most modern families is child care. At time they paid between 20 and 30 thousand dollars a year for child care. That was just for one child. What this means is even if a wife has a good job at least a third of her income will go to pay for child care. Other countries have addressed this, but not the United States.
The bottom line is who do we care about? Republicans are the proponents for the rich. They will lie, steal, cheat and do what they can to protect the rich. A great failure of the Democrats is the poor job they have done fighting for the poor. Democrats are like Ukraine, short on resources. The Republicans have huge donors from people like the Koch brothers. Now, Republicans have their own propaganda network called Fox News. Working people are losing.
The saddest part of this story are the simple minded Hooples who vote for Trump, and his gang of lying understudies. Working people voting against their own interest.
