The purpose of the Klan was to enforce white supremacy. In the good old days the Klan could dance around in their silly outfits and harass people, lynch people, and spread hate. As a society we have changed and the people of the Klan ilk have to be a little more subtle, but those people are still with us. The most obvious are those flying the confederate flag. Right behind them are those flying the Trump flag.
Coded messaging is the new dress code for the Klan mentality. One needs to keep in mind religion was a major part of the Klan. Catholics and Jews were not invited to Klan meetings. The mixing of the Klan mentality and religion is still with us today. You don't have to scratch too deep to realize it was the evangelicals who elected Trump. If there was a grand wizard of the Klan today, it would be Donald Trump.
In the old days it was the sheets and pointed hat that the Klan members signaled with. Today it is the "Go Brandon" crap, and of course the MAGA hat. Back in the old days the Klan appealed to a certain element of society, nothing has changed.
It was the poor whites who feared black people would take their jobs. Now it is immigrants who are the new black people. Black people were forced to work in low paying difficult jobs. Does that sound familiar to what we do to immigrants today.
Just like beer we now have Klan light. The Klan liked violence intimidation, and of course lynching's. Who wanted Mike Pence lynched? It was Donald, the grand Wizard.
