If you want today's rant about the Hooples wasting taxpayer money, the story is below. Here is some good news. We live in an area with excellent hiking, and there are a lot of outdoor people who enjoy it.
The Kadizzles have volunteered for the National Forest Service for almost ten years clearing and improving hiking trails in the Tonto Basin area. As a result we intimately know just about all the trails. We have been learning the trails in the Payson area.
Hiking, bike riding, and just walking about we meet other hikers. Everyone would like to hike some new trails. Going south from Payson one of the first spectacular trails is the Barnhart Trail. It is just a little past Rye. There are three nice trails a little farther down the road across from where you turn left to Tonto Basin. The Deer Creek trail is our favorite
Most of the Payson hikers do not venture as far as the Roosevelt Lake trail system, but for a nice change in topography and scenery Kadizzle highly recommends that area. Many of the trails lead up to the Arizona Trail. Also down that way you have the Sierra Ancha Mountains with a lot of wonderful trails.
If we can help you find a trail or give you some hiking advice we would be glad to share our experience. Get in touch with us through the visitor center at Tonto Basin or ask a question in the comment section.
