Stuck in Neutral

Mrs. Kadizzle and old Kadizzle decided to go for a bike ride.  Kadizzle fired up the ebike and Jasper peddled the old fashioned.  After a jaunt on a section line road we decided to come back on the old railroad right of way that went north of Hazen to the old North Star Mine.  For years Kadizzle has advocated this old train bed be made into a bike path.  It would be so easy, but, but.  Well we live in North Dakota where nothing ever changes and recreation is looked on as something people in the East and West coast do.  Here in North Dakota we don't like change.  The old goats rule. Any improvement could lead to a tax increase, so lets not fix or improve anything.  The old right of way leads up to a wonder set of small lakes the coal company made. A young kid with a fishing pole could head up to the lake, swim, fish, and have a great day while getting some exercise. But hell no, the kids sit and stare at their phones.  We have all become apple dumplings, including Kadizzle.  The song and dance team at city hall always says they want the town to grow, but who wants to come to a town where quilting is the biggest sport.  Then there are the land owners.  These people don't want no one comin near them cows.  As we found out when we tried to get a trail near Stanton the people were afraid ruffians would burn their barns down if there was a trail nearby.  Most of the dingers don't realize the vandals and Visigoths don't walk or ride bikes.  So here we sit in our little town with nothing.  It would be so cheap and easy to make a trail, but we live in the land were the depression left, but the mentality did not.  So save those jars, and that tinfoil, and never change anything.  It was good enough for ma and pa so you just be quiet and hoe the garden.
