Sprawling Wasteland

Yesterday Winky and Kadizzle drove deep into Phoenix. Phoenix is a vast sprawling wasteland of the same stores, the same roads, and the same mess spread over a vast area in the desert. The inability of humans to plan and construct a decent city is on display. Hundreds of years ago just about every civilization could lay out a town with some character, and respect for the planet. Now we have these vast pollution factories spread all over the country. Visit Denver, Baltimore, the entire East Coast, or any metropolitan area and you find the same thing, a giant mess. When you go somewhere in the United States it is as if you went no where. Everything is the same. Boxes, little boxes, everyone lives in little boxes, nice boxes, sorrowful boxes, rat infested boxes. Our communities too often look like the cattle feeding complexes that have grown out of proportion. Transportation is the devil. The year is 2021 and we are still tied to cars like our umbilical cord. Mass transit is possible, and so many things that could make walking and biking possible just have not been done. When will we realize it is quality, not quantity?
