An ancient site

Ken, Rita, Kadizzle, and Jasper headed up to one of the largest ruins in the area.  At the site there are at least a hundred rooms.  Right off the bat Rita found a nice large pottery piece.  Later Jasper found some nice black on red pieces.  These people were clever. It appears they chose a site out on a high peninsula.  They picked a site where they could get water to flow down the peninsula and irrigate their crops.  Additionally the peninsula was a good defensive site.

The next site we plan to visit is one we have visited before.  It is hidden by a lot of brush.  Rodger and Jasper found some nice pottery shards there before.  Rain and erosion bring up more material to look at.  The best sites are always the ones hard to get to.  If a site is easy to walk to the site will be picked over and trampled badly.  At just about every site you can see where pot hunters have dug holes.  The pot hunters make money destroying the sites.  Usually they dig in a corner of a room where they think there may have been a burial.

Until you do a lot of hiking  around this area you have no comprehension how many people once lived here.  Evidence of early humans is here everywhere.
