Stay at Home Dad

While the gang is going up another mountain today Kadizzle is going to spend one more day working on the trails around the campground.  The campground where we stay is an amazing boondoggle. At some point in time The Salt River Project was blackmailed for forty million dollars. That was in 1990 when forty million was a lot more cheese.  With forty million there was more money than they knew what to do with. The money was to mitigate the land taken by Lake Roosevelt.  The dam was raised ninety feet.  Recreation facilities were built anticipating huge crowds from Phoenix.  There are one thousand three hundred nice camping spots here, each with a little ramadas and nice solar showers and restrooms.  Well nobody every showed up to camp.  So slowly all of this is deteriorating.  This place has deluxe boat ramps, parking lots, you name it this place has it in spades.

Our home Lake Sakakawea is fifteen times larger than Lake Roosevelt, and Lake Roosevelt has fifty times the facilities.  It is heart breaking to see all this going to waste. Worse yet they are actually tearing down some of the nice facilities because of the cost of maintaining them.  Our job is to help keep going what is left, which includes miles of gravel paved trails.  If you ever need a good cheap camping spot come on down. In fact if you visit us you can stay for free.  As Forest Service volunteers we can have guest stay for free.
