The Blasted Coyotes

Howling coyotes kept us up all night. It was continuous. Kadizzle got up at 5:30 and chased them away. On the bike with the spotlight Kadizzle peddled in the dark. Down towards the lake he saw one big guy cross the road. Then he saw a pair of green eyes looking back in the brush. The coyote party will not be tolerated tonight. Usually they howl for a little while then stop. These coyotes have become very used to humans. Once when we were near Death Valley Winky set out some meat to thaw on the steps of the camper. Withing minutes a coyote was there to steal the meat. Kadizzle saw his reflection and chased him away just in time.

A couple years ago the coyotes could be seen walking by with a domestic dog following. The coyotes tolerated the dog, but made him walk about ten yards behind the pack. It is interesting how animals have become used to humans. A huge Elk walked through the yard of our new home in Payson. Elk wander the city. Somehow animals seem to know when hunting season is. All the fires have forced many of the animals to move closer to humans.
