Cobra Arch

The Commander and Lord Kadizzle hiked down into Buckskin Creek to see Cobra Arch. The whole area is wonderful scenery and hiking, but it is a very hard hike through sand, and hard to find. A lot of people get close, and then miss it.

During the hike you could see over to many of the other famous sights in the area, such as the Wave, and Coyote Butt

Life in a Strange Mormon Land

If you know anything about the Mormon Religion, you know it is a bizarre cult. Sitting in St. George, Utah, not far from where the Mormons massacred, a wagon train of settlers many years ago, I notice the Mormons have blocked my computer from getting on Facebook. Yesterday Lord Kadizzle had a religious discussion with some Mormon College girls at our campground. The childlike view of the world they have is very disturbing. The Mormons do have a good side. They are very service oriented, very industrious, and generally friendly people. However, we drove through Colorado City yesterday where the fundamentalist Mormons marry 12 year old girls to eighty year old men. This is going on only sixty miles from where I sit. Religion is a relic of the past that has caused a lot of suffering, and we all need to grow up and end this nonsense that allows a Baptist Preacher in Hazen to slap a six month old baby while he deprives his 12 children of a life by home schooling them. More wars, abuse, and hate have been caused by religion than any force on Earth. If you want to believe in a higher order, fine, just don't force it on your children or the rest of the world.

Kadizzles on Parieha River Utah

The Kadizzle wagon is parked at our favorite spot down from the Pariah River Rangers station. Our friends the camp host just got to the ranger station and I am on their wifi. Really nice people who tell us all the secret spots. The commander and Kadizzle will do some exploring today. Weather nice, a little cool, but sunny and clear.

The Truth is a state of mind

One of the best parts of waking up in a wonderful place is what I call a music walk. You put on your headphones with your ipod and take a walk in the sunshine. Whistling is mandatory. The words to one song intrigue me, "The truth is a state of mind". Often I wonder how people believe some of the nonsensical things they do, but the perfect explanation is the truth is a state of mind. No matter how hard you try you cannot change the thought process of someone who has a state of mind that truth does not penetrate. Is there such a thing as truth, or can you know truth?

Richard Dawkins wrote the following letter to his ten year old daughter, it says more about truth than I ever could. Take the time to read it, then compare what you believe, to what is true.

To my dearest daughter,

Now that you are ten, I want to write to you about something that is important to me. Have you ever wondered how we know the things that we know? How do we know, for instance, that the stars, which look like tiny pinpricks in the sky, are really huge balls of fire like the Sun and very far away? And how do we know that the Earth is a smaller ball whirling round one of those stars, the Sun?
The answer to these questions is ‘evidence’.

Sometimes evidence means actually seeing (or hearing, feeling, smelling….) that something is true. Astronauts have traveled far enough from the Earth to see with their own eyes that it is round. Sometimes our eyes need help. The ‘evening star’ looks like a bright twinkle in the sky but with a telescope you can see that it is a beautiful ball – the planet we call Venus. Something that you learn by direct seeing (or hearing or feeling…) is called an observation.

Often evidence isn’t just observation on its own, but observation always lies at the back of it. If there’s been a murder, often nobody (except the murderer and the dead person!) actually observed it. But detectives can gather together lots of other observations which may all point towards a particular suspect. If a person’s fingerprints match those found on a dagger, this is evidence that he touched it. It doesn’t prove that he did the murder, but it can help when it’s joined up with lots of other evidence. Sometimes a detective can think about a whole lot of observations and suddenly realize that they all fall into place and make sense if so-and-so did the murder.

Scientists – the specialists in discovering what is true about the world and the universe – often work like detectives. They make a guess (called a hypothesis) about what might be true. They then say to themselves: if that were really true, we ought to see so-and-so. This is called a prediction. For example, if the world is really round, we can predict that a traveler, going on and on in the same direction, should eventually find himself back where he started. When a doctor says that you have measles he doesn’t take one look at you and see measles. His first look gives him a hypothesis that you may have measles. Then he says to himself: if she really has measles, I ought to see… Then he runs through his list of predictions and tests them with his eyes (have you got spots?), his hands (is your forehead hot?), and his ears (does your chest wheeze in a measly way?). Only then does he make his decision and say, ‘I diagnose that the child has measles.’ Sometimes doctors need to do other tests like blood tests or X-rays, which help their eyes, hands and ears to make observations.

The way scientists use evidence to learn about the world is much cleverer and more complicated than I can say in a short letter. But now I want to move on from evidence, which is a good reason for believing something, and warn you against three bad reasons for believing anything. They are called ‘tradition’, ‘authority’, and ‘revelation’.

First, tradition. A few months ago, I went on television to have a discussion with about 50 children. These children were invited because they’d been brought up in lots of different religions. Some had been brought up as Christians, others as Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs. The man with the microphone went from child to child, asking them what they believed. What they said shows up exactly what I mean by ‘tradition’. Their beliefs turned out to have no connection with evidence. They just trotted out the beliefs of their parents and grandparents, which, in turn, were not based upon evidence either. They said things like, ‘We Hindus believe so and so.’ ‘We Muslims believe such and such.’ ‘We Christians believe something else.’ Of course, since they all believed different things, they couldn’t all be right. The man with the microphone seemed to think this quite proper, and he didn’t even try to get them to argue out their differences with each other. But that isn’t the point I want to make. I simply want to ask where their beliefs came from. They came from tradition. Tradition means beliefs handed down from grandparent to parent to child, and so on. Or from books handed down through the centuries. Traditional beliefs often start from almost nothing; perhaps somebody just makes them up originally, like the stories about Thor and Zeus. But after they’ve been handed down over some centuries, the mere fact that they are so old makes them seem special. People believe things simply because people have believed the same thing over centuries. That’s tradition.

The trouble with tradition is that, no matter how long ago a story was made up, it is still exactly as true or untrue as the original story was. If you make up a story that isn’t true, handing it down over any number of centuries doesn’t make it any truer!

Most people in England have been baptized into the Church of England, but this is only one of many branches of the Christian religion. There are other branches such as the Russian Orthodox, the Roman Catholic and the Methodist churches. They all believe different things. The Jewish religion and the Muslim religion are a bit more different still; and there are different kinds of Jews and of Muslims. People who believe even slightly different things from each other often go to war over their disagreements. So you might think that they must have some pretty good reasons – evidence – for believing what they believe. But actually their different beliefs are entirely due to different traditions.

Let’s talk about one particular tradition. Roman Catholics believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was so special that she didn’t die but was lifted bodily into Heaven. Other Christian traditions disagree, saying that Mary did die like anybody else. These other religions don’t talk about her much and, unlike Roman Catholics, they don’t call her the ‘Queen of Heaven’. The tradition that Mary’s body was lifted into Heaven is not a very old one. The Bible says nothing about how or when she died; in fact the poor woman is scarcely mentioned in the Bible at all. The belief that her body was lifted into Heaven wasn’t invented until about six centuries after Jesus’s time. At first it was just made up, in the same way as any story like Snow White was made up. But, over the centuries, it grew into a tradition and people started to take it seriously simply because the story had been handed down over so many generations. The older the tradition became, the more people took it seriously. It finally was written down as an official Roman Catholic belief only very recently, in 1950. But the story was no more true in 1950 than it was when it was first invented 600 years after Mary’s death.

I’ll come back to tradition at the end of my letter, and look at it in another way. But first I must deal with the two other bad reasons for believing in anything: authority and revelation.

Authority, as a reason for believing something, means believing it because you are told to believe it by somebody important. In the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope is the most important person, and people believe he must be right just because he is the Pope. In one branch of the Muslim religion, the important people are old men with beards called Ayatollahs. Lots of young Muslims are prepared to commit murder, purely because the Ayatollahs in a faraway country tell them to.

When I say that it was only in 1950 that Roman Catholics were finally told that they had to believe that Mary’s body shot off to Heaven, what I mean is that in 1950 the Pope told people that they had to believe it. That was it. The Pope said it was true, so it had to be true! Now, probably some of the things that Pope said in his life were true and some were not true. There is no good reason why, just because he was the Pope, you should believe everything he said, any more than you believe everything that lots of other people say. The present Pope has ordered his followers not to limit the number of babies they have. If people follow his authority as slavishly as he would wish, the results could be terrible famines, diseases and wars, caused by overcrowding.

Of course, even in science, sometimes we haven’t seen the evidence ourselves and we have to take somebody else’s word for it. I haven’t with my own eyes, seen the evidence that light travels at a speed of 186,000 miles per second. Instead, I believe books that tell me the speed of light. This looks like ‘authority’. But actually it is much better than authority because the people who wrote the books have seen the evidence and anyone is free to look carefully at the evidence whenever they want. That is very comforting. But not even the priests claim that there is any evidence for their story about Mary’s body zooming off to Heaven.

The third kind of bad reason for believing anything is called ‘revelation’. If you had asked the Pope in 1950 how he knew that Mary’s body disappeared into Heaven, he would probably have said that it had been ‘revealed’ to him. He shut himself in his room and prayed for guidance. He thought and thought, all by himself, and he became more and more sure inside himself. When religious people just have a feeling inside themselves that something must be true, even though there is no evidence that it is true, they call their feeling ‘revelation’. It isn’t only popes who claim to have revelations. Lots of religious people do. It is one of their main reasons for believing the things that they do believe. But is it a good reason?

Suppose I told you that your dog was dead. You’d be very upset, and you’d probably say, ‘Are you sure? How do you know? How did it happen?’ Now suppose I answered: ‘I don’t actually know that Pepe is dead. I have no evidence. I just have this funny feeling deep inside me that he is dead.’ You’d be pretty cross with me for scaring you, because you’d know that an inside ‘feeling’ on its own is not a good reason for believing that a whippet is dead. You need evidence. We all have inside feelings from time to time, and sometimes they turn out to be right and sometimes they don’t. Anyway, different people have opposite feelings, so how are we to decide whose feeling is right? The only way to be sure that a dog is dead is to see him dead, or hear that his heart has stopped; or be told by somebody who has seen or heard some real evidence that he is dead.

People sometimes say that you must believe in feelings deep inside, otherwise you’d never be confident of things like ‘My wife loves me’.
But this is a bad argument. There can be plenty of evidence that somebody loves you. All through the day when you are with somebody who loves you, you see and hear lots of little tidbits of evidence, and they all add up. It isn’t purely inside feeling, like the feeling that priests call revelation. There are outside things to back up the inside feeling: looks in the eye, tender notes in the voice, little favors and kindnesses; this is all real evidence.

Sometimes people have a strong inside feeling that somebody loves them when it is not based upon any evidence, and then they are likely to be completely wrong. There are people with a strong inside feeling that a famous film star loves them, when really the film star hasn’t even met them. People like that are ill in their minds. Inside feelings must be backed up by evidence, otherwise you just can’t trust them.

Inside feelings are valuable in science too, but only for giving you ideas that you later test by looking for evidence. A scientist can have a ‘hunch’ about an idea that just ‘feels’ right. In itself, this is not a good reason for believing something. But it can be a good reason for spending some time doing a particular experiment, or looking in a particular way for evidence. Scientists use inside feelings all the time to get ideas. But they are not worth anything until they are supported by evidence.

I promised that I’d come back to tradition, and look at it in another way. I want to try to explain why tradition is so important to us. All animals are built (by the process called evolution) to survive in the normal place in which their kind live. Lions are built to be good at surviving on the plains of Africa. Crayfish are built to be good at surviving in fresh water, while lobsters are built to be good at surviving in the salt sea. People are animals too, and we are built to be good at surviving in a world full of … other people. Most of us don’t hunt for our own food like lions or lobsters, we buy it from other people who have bought it from yet other people. We ‘swim’ through a ‘sea of people’. Just as a fish needs gills to survive in water, people need brains that make them able to deal with other people. Just as the sea is full of salt water, the sea of people is full of difficult things to learn. Like language.

You speak English but your friend speaks German. You each speak the language that fits you to ‘swim about’ in your own separate ‘people sea’. Language is passed down by tradition. There is no other way. In England, Pepe is a dog. In Germany he is ein Hund. Neither of these words is more correct, or more truer than the other. Both are simply handed down. In order to be good at ‘swimming about in their people sea’, children have to learn the language of their own country, and lots of other things about their own people; and this means that they have to absorb, like blotting paper, an enormous amount of traditional information. (Remember that traditional information just means things that are handed down from grandparents to parents to children.) The child’s brain has to be a sucker for traditional information. And the child can’t be expected to sort out good and useful traditional information, like the words of a language, from bad or silly traditional information, like believing in witches and devils and ever-living virgins.

It’s a pity, but it can’t help being the case, that because children have to be suckers for traditional information, they are likely to believe anything the grown-ups tell them, whether true or false, right or wrong. Lots of what grown-ups tell them is true and based on evidence or at least sensible. But if some of it is false, silly or even wicked, there is nothing to stop the children believing that too. Now, when the children grow up, what do they do? Well, of course, they tell it to the next generation of children. So, once something gets itself strongly believed – even if its completely untrue and there never was any reason to believe it in the first place – it can go on forever.
Could this be what happened with religions? Belief that there is a god or gods, belief in Heaven, belief that Mary never died, belief that Jesus never had a human father, belief that prayers are answered, belief that wine turns into blood – not one of these beliefs is backed up by any good evidence. Yet millions of people believe them. Perhaps this is because they were told to believe them when they were young enough to believe anything.

Millions of other people believe quite different things, because they were told different things when they were children. Muslim children are told different things from Christian children, and both grow up utterly convinced that they are right and the others are wrong. Even within Christians, Roman Catholics believe different things from Church of England people or Episcopalians, Shakers or Quakers, Mormons or Holy Rollers, and all are utterly convinced that they are right and the others are wrong. They believe different things for exactly the same kind of reason as you speak English and someone speaks German.

Both languages are, in their own country, the right language to speak. But it can’t be true that different religions are right in their own countries, because different religions claim that opposite things are true. Mary can’t be alive in the Catholic Republic but dead in Protestant Northern Ireland.

What can we do about all this? It is not easy for you to do anything, because you are only ten. But you could try this. Next time somebody tells you something that sounds important, think to yourself: ‘Is this the kind of thing that people probably know because of evidence? Or is it the kind of thing that people only believe because of tradition, authority or revelation?’ And, next time somebody tells you that something is true, why not say to them: ‘What kind of evidence is there for that?’ And if they can’t give you a good answer, I hope you’ll think very carefully before you believe a word they say.

Your loving,

Daddy

Hyper Active or Hiker Active?

Today Lord Kadizzle is letting The Commander run on her own. On second thought the whole idea of Kadizzle "letting" The Commander do anything is absurd. The Commander is on one more hike while Kadizzle rest. Yesterday we visited the site where Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid filmed the bicycle scene. The picture is above of the actual house.

A Vast land of endless surprises.

The Commander and Lord Kadizzle spent day three exploring more uncharted areas of Zion. Zion is one of those places that keep you going just a little farther. One danger is that as you keep going "just a little farther", and you don't have time to get back before dark. The Commander is great for that mistake. Although the Commander considers herself a rock climber, she would not let Lord Kadizzle assault a steep slickrock peak he wanted to try. We both have been tempted to hike all the way down to one fork of the Virgin River. Luckily, we did not try. Today, we found out the route we were going to take would have "cliffed" us, as they say, meaning we couldn't go any farther without climbing gear.

Exploring Zion

Walking slick rock in Zion is the best hiking on earth. Again today The Commander will lead another exploration into unknown territory.

Bush has destroyed our savings

Just looked at my retirement account, or should I say what is left of it. Bush and his gang did way more to destroy the country than Bin Lauden could have ever hoped. It will take years to dig out of the mess that idiot created. Traveling you can see the damage everywhere. Stores in Phoenix shuttered and for lease. Fewer people in the campgrounds, and the big honker RVs just are not moving. Mabel and Zeke that were looking forward to retirement are now home worrying how they are going to make it because of the robbery the Republicans pulled off with the tax cuts for the rich. Putting a war on a credit card rather than make the rich pay their share was a stroke of genius. Lets give some more bailout money to pay CEO bonuses.

Zion, heaven on Earth

The Commander lead the way on a new hike at Zion. Rarely do the Kadizzles explore the south side of Zion, but we found a wonderful overlook of the Virgin River. Will do Zion for a couple more days then on to Grand Staircase Escalante. Got a little snow last night, but will be a nice day. The Commander just bought some used water shoes and socks, so a wet hike up a stream is surely in our future.

Shoot with no remorse

Lord Kadizzle has in his head a list of people he could shoot in the head with no remorse. On this list is Rush Limbaugh, and Pat Robertson. Today the New York Times has a good article on Rush and what an embarrassment he is to the Republican party. Pat Robertson has been robbing old ladies for years and to make matters worse is a Republican, as if Jesus would ever tolerate Pat Robertson, or Rush Limbaugh. Even Jesus could not forgive them.

Goodbye Rushinda Limbaugh, and call 911 for McNugget alerts.

For lack of entertainment Lord Kadizzle had a long political discussion with the neighbors at our camp site. The husband looked like a washed out old Viet Vet, and his wife matched. On and on we went in the usual circles, it was fun, and each side had the usual diatribe. It all ended in good humor. Today when we left Mrs. Republican hard core insisted on a hardy goodbye. As we rolled out his three Amerikan flags were flying proudly. Frank had a hard time getting a word in edgewise between Rushinda and Lord Kadizzle. Lord Kadizzle made little headway with Rushinda once she declared there were no facts that disagreed with her view of the world. Anything that disagreed with Bill O'Riley, or the other hard cores was just fabrication of the left.

Before leaving Lord Kadizzle spent a few moments watching Fox News with Frank on the TV that projected from one of his storage areas under the forty foot motor home. Frank alerted me to a story that a woman had called 911 several times because she went to McDonalds and they were out of Chicken McNuggets.

Rattlesnakes and Drunks

In the last two days the big news has been the drunk that smashed through our gate at the gated community, and the siting of two rattlesnakes. The drunk hit the gate at about fifty, and decided to run out into the desert on foot. The sheriff instigated a helicopter hunt, and soon he was captured. It was interesting to wake up to the crashing sound when he hit the gate. Our first rattlesnake Cissie walked by and did not see. Fortunately it was dead, even though coiled. The second one was on the trail. Hiking is taking on a new phase. When I get to better wi-fi. I will put some pictures on.

The Lake Hike

A nice picture from the Butcher Jones hike yesterday, around part of Lake Seguaro, North of us on The Salt River.

Another Day in the Desert

Now Ed has moved in as our neighbor. This is our little corner of paradise. Yesterday we hiked the Butcher Jones trail. Today has pretty much been a day off. The Commander and Lord Kadizzle just finished a short walk down to the river. Two girls have a contract to monitor an eagle's nest there from sunrise to sunset. The father eagle has left the mother to raise the baby alone. It could be he had to leave the area to look for work because of the mess created by the Republicans with the economy. With the spotting scope you can clearly see what is going on in the nest from a half mile away.

The Commander will not give up

The Commander insist we hike every hike in the Superstition Mountains. This means we hike from seven to nine miles per day, everyday for the last two weeks. Lord Kadizzle wants to bust out and head north. Hopefully in a day or two we will. May go up to the Verde River and kayak.

Wild Horses on the Salt River

Ruth and Roger pass the wild horses on the Salt River. Apparently people who have no practical way to get rid of horses let them loose in the Tonto National Forest. On the river float yesterday we came across a herd getting a drink. Sometimes they come through the campground. Took on some water in a bigger rapid yesterday, but it was a very nice trip. We went from the dam clear to the next dam. Ruth saw a lot of trout in some areas. Today we may go to the art fair in Fountian Hills, and then scout for a new camp spot with Indian Ruins over on the Agua Fria.

The gated community

Salt River Adventure

Yesterday we had a great trip with Ruth and Roger down the Salt River. The weather could not have been better, the water was perfect. We liked it so much we will probably go again today. The Kadizzles have decided they are living on a culdesac in a gated community. Sure you may have to manually unlock the gate, and sure the culdesac may just be a corner of a parking lot out in god's land, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Someone please give me a clew how to spell cul de sac.

Looking for a home

The Kadizzles drove around north of Phoenix looking for a new camp site. The fine fellow who took us canoeing yesterday offered to let us use the canoe to come down the Salt River. We may give it a try tomorrow. Looks like we may stay put until things warm up a little.

Massacre Ground Hike

The Kadizzles were joined by the Donovans, and Dennys to look for the Massacre Ground. Supposedly the Indians shot some gold miners here. Nice hike. Lauren and Pat had to turn back before the waterfall. The water fall was a nice side trip. Monday or Tuesday we will probably head for new ground.

19 miles in two days, worn out.

Yesterday, Ruth, Roger, The Commander, and Lord Kadizzle did a 9.5 mile forced march. The scenery was wonderful and it was a very nice hike, but today we need a rest. The weather has been excellent, and again today the sky is fair. Ruth and Roger sat in front of this nice little water fall for a picture and a rest. Strange to see so much water flowing in the desert.

Thursday, February 12, 2009

The Commander had a strenuous forced march yesterday of ten miles. It was a nice hike with wonderful scenery. Another hike today with Ruth and Rodger. Looks like it will be a nice day. May hike tomorrow with the Donovans.

Kadizzles roll into Phoenix

We just finished dinner with our old neighbors Ken and Terry Peterson in Mesa. Yesterday we ate with our sailing friends Ruth and Roger Denny. The camper is up at Usery Park. We will probably meet with the Donovans and Garceau's on Wed for dinner. After Wed we may head out. Will probably leave Usery and go to a campground by lake a littler farther north.

Kadizzles at Acrosanti

At The Commanders orders we landed the Bigfoot at Acrosanti today. The Commander is talking about camping in the parking lot. Later perhaps pictures and an update. If we leave here today we will probably camp north of Mesa, maybe at Usery, or in a camp ground up the road a ways.

Very Strange Find

On Saturday's exploration hike Lord Kadizzle looked across the canyon and saw what appeared to be an Indian ruin in a very precipitous place. Something about the ruin did not look right. The stone work was not quite right. Sunday the group decided to make a difficult hike to the ruin. One at the site their was none of the usual pot shards or any other indication of occupation. Indeed the rock work was wrong. The strangest thing was what appeared to be an antenna in the middle of the rock circle. Why someone put an antenna in the middle of a rock circle in the middle of nowhere is a real mystery. If anyone knows anything about antennas let me know what kind of antenna this is. It appears to have been there for some time. It may have been some sort of remote sensing device, and it is possible someone took the main components.

Moving to the Aqua Fria River

If all goes well the wagon will move about forty miles south into the wilderness of the Aqau Fria River. May be phone service, but I doubt it, will certainly be no wi-fi. From there we may head down toward Phoenix.

Assignment for Sunday

Read the New York Times editorials today, all excellent. Dowd finally has a home run. Another article slams the worlds most sorrowful man, Rush Limbaugh, the mother of all pigs. Read how the Republicans are cow towing to the gas bag.

A differnt planet with music

Last night our little band of old foggies went to The Salt Cellar for dinner. The man said they had the best Pizza around, and he was right. As we ate musicians began to trickle in. Gary set up the equipment and played a couple songs. Then another guy played some nice music, and another, and then a half drunk guy with accompaniment, and on it went. One by one most of the musicians visited with us. It was all free and they were all very good. It was a wide mix of music from Johnny Cash to Jazz.

It would be so nice if Hazen had a place like that, where people came an played for free. The music wasn't so loud it drowned out conversation. Every day of the week they had some entertainment venue. Each entertainer performs for free.

Nothing goes as planned

The Commander made a find yesterday, but the whole search did not follow the original plan. Lord Kadizzle and The Commander hiked to the top of the rim. Almost at the top our band encountered a lost dog which was out on a mountain lion hunt. The dog collar had two phone numbers and we called both. No answer, but we did meet the rest of the mountain lion party latter and returned Babe to the gang.

Bush whacking we came down from the peak onto a plateau. Lord Kadizzle had suspected the last time we were in the area there might be a site on the top of the plateau, but he gave up trying to make it from the bottom of the canyon. This time The Commander came down from the top of the mountain. Lord Kadizzle split off and looked for artifacts above another ruin we had found in the valley.

The Commander found a site that had very little modern contact, and artifacts were scattered everywhere.

Todays expidition

If you click on the picture you can enlarge it. Today if all goes well we will try to get to where the little yellow pin is. A Google Earth fly over seems to show something there. In the Verde Valley there was a very large ancient population. More than likely they did most of their hunting up on the rim of the valley. Most of the access to the rim is not very good. The site we are going to investigate today is in an ideal location to access the rim. Nearby are a lot of very significant sites. Sacred Mountian, and Montazuma's well are not that far away. At the end of the day, it may turn out we just walked a long ways to a pile of natural rocks. Every site around here has an abundance of pottery shards. If this is a site there will surely be pot shards there.

Another expidition into Indian country.

Our little band headed up one of the canyons East of Rim Rock yesterday on another great exploration. One of the great things about these trips is we get to see Indian finds in a fairly raw state untouched by hordes of tourist. The Commander found one of the most amazing arrow heads ever discovered. The arrow head was about the size of a dime and the delicacy of the work will never be surpassed. Up the canyon we found a very strange ruin. Apparently dwellings had been built on a steep island precipice that jutted out into the canyon. The amount of rock on the sides of the embankment indicated that there must have been either a great tower on the precipice, or a large number of terraced rooms that spread out from the base and climbed upward. Lord Kadizzle favors the terraced theory. The expedition found several caves that had been occupied with some nice pictographs, and we also found some nice petroglyphs. Three distinct types of pottery were found, black on white, brown on white, and black on red. One unsolved puzzle was something that appeared to be an old orchard. It may have been an Indian orchard, or could have been more modern.

Great pottery finds today

The Commander, Lord Kadizzle, and Ned did the first exploration of the season. Was a terrific day for finding black on white potter. Found at least four good pieces today. This was the best. Noticed The Commander walked right by and did not see it.

Rain in the Desert

The Kadizzles have a magic ability to bring rain to the desert. Once in Baja we caused rain. It was the biggest rain in one hundred years. We could hardly drive down the road in Joshua Tree. It has been raining on and off for three days here. If we could just be somewhere that all this caused the flowers to bloom. Perhaps the moisture will stay in the ground long enough for it to happen. If you have never been in the desert when it is hit by water it is a must see.

Life in Rim Rock

Made a trip to Cottonwood to get the oil changed. Had a long discussion with the guy who changed the oil about his hydrogen injection system for his truck. The manager and about three employees all stood around for science class at the gas station. Lord Kadizzle is skeptical about the whole process, but it did make for some interesting conversation. According to the user, he gets thirty percent better millage.

The weather is a little wet so we cannot do any exploring. Ned found a new Indian site we are anxious to see, but it may be a few days.

History, the real thing.

Lord Kadizzle never thought he would find himself somewhat of a history buff, but little by little he has become fascinated with what really happened. So much of American history has been fabricated for general consumption, that reality got pushed aside. Columbus was really a savage jerk and not above some whopping lies he used to further his own greed. The gilded version of how this country came into existence is not very interesting. What actually took place is interesting. It is very sad that young children are given in school a painted over placid view of what took place. It is no wonder they are bored and loose interest. If schools had children delve into real history and talk about how things came about, education would take place. The current system is more indoctrination than education. The motives of early Americans were not nearly as noble as one would believe from reading the typical American history book provided to most schools today. A dose of reality would serve our students so much better. The amazing thing about a lot of the early American heroes is that their real life was actually far more interesting than the fictionalized version presented for mass consumption. A classic case is Kit Carson. The book BLOOD AND THUNDER is an eye opener about how the southwest was actually settled. The portrayal of our country as a classes land of equality, is such a falsehood when one actually looks into it. The notion that people could come here for a better life needs to be examined. Most of the early settles had a very hared time of it, and often wrote back to the mother land to tell people not to come. Harmony was not a theme. Everyone was pitted against everyone. The rich whites deliberately pitted the poor whites against the blacks and the Indians. Sound familiar?

The early rich played the same game the Republicans of today use, divide and conquer. One major fear the haves always had was the "have nots" would ban together and throw them out. The early plantation owners wanted to make sure the Indians disliked the blacks, so their plan was to arm some blacks and have them fight the Indians. Poor whites were siding with black slaves, so the landowners did everything they could to stir racial hate. If today's students could see the origins of today's problems as portrayed in real history perhaps we would not have to repeat history so often. Most of the dirty tricks Karl Rove used were used in colonial times.

The Winds of Change are blowing

Yesterday was a day of hope, and we need a lot. As the Kadizzles travel the tales of economic woe are everywhere. In Evergreen we heard of the well to do losing their fancy mountain homes. On the road you don't see many people traveling. In Cottowood the stores up and down the street are shuttered and for lease. Homes are for sale everywhere with no buyers. Obama has been left a mess that Heracles could not clean up. The next year will be interesting. The economy is so fragile if it does not break it will be amazing. People have to cut back, and that is the worst scenario to get things going. It is a no win situation. However, the country is going to have a reality check like never before, and that may be a blessing in disguise. So perhaps we can thank Bush for knocking us senseless, we now have awoken to a new world where the old Republican lies don't work anymore. If that sorrowful man did one thing, he thoroughly broke the illusion. Bush has put us on the road to realization that we cannot have a functioning country where a very small percentage prosper at the cost of so many. If his legacy is that he shook us out of a stupor of ignorance and delusion, then let that be over the door of his presidential library, which I suggest should be a two holer with no other book than a Sears catalog.

Kadizzle Conquers the West

The Kadizzles stopped at Villanuava State Park in the usual spot and then headed on down to Cottonwood. It was a beautiful sunny day as we passed through Albuquerque, Flagstaff and on to Rimrock.

Bust Out of Evergreen Today?

I all goes well the Kadizzle wagon train will bust out of Evergreen and head to Villanuava Park in New Mexico. Tonight we will be camped beside the Pecos River in the very spot the Spanish went through in the 1500's.

Best outcome is duel turns out to be a tie

Cheney asked Bush to hunt with him, but Bush thought a duel would be more fair.

Look closely,

Fran gave me this weeks addition, but it did not register for awhile. I just thought it was a picture of Moe, but it is the other Moe. The one we don't have to deal with no Moe.

How Can I Keep from Singing

Lord Kadizzle woke up to a glorious day. The Snoocher Bear is feeling great. Snoocher and Lord Kadizzle belted out some John Prine songs and fired out a few Bruce Springsteens too. Springsteen has some songs that rip Bush and the Republicans to shreds, "How can I keep from singing". Seeing that worthless rat scurry out of the White House to Texas will be one of the best days in my life. "How can I keep from singing?".

We are banning books in Beulah

Beulah is the little town west of Kadizzleville. Over there they are doing their best to keep the future from falling all over them. Today the Bismarck Tribune has an article about the school banning books. Sometimes it is hopeless to go forward in North Dakota after all the state voted for McCain.

Fox Number Three

A quick glimpse of something running through the woods at the Bear Den made me run to the back window. Looking out the back window I saw a red fox running towards the national forest to the East. Erin has pictures of the black fox, and the little fox that sits on her deck, but this appears to be another guy. Lord Kadizzle has not been able to see the elk close up. It would be great if they would come through the yard.

Today at the Bear Den

Cissie on the deck

Up on the mountain Erin feels pretty good, The Commander is reading in the warm sun, and Lord Kadizzle is up to no good. Drove up to the top of the mountain today. Amazing number of houses hidden in the pines. People have scratched out homes everywhere. How they get up there in heavy snow is a mystery. Drove by the Sanford and Son hideout. There actually are two guys that pick up trash around here. They call themselves Sanford and Son. We once hired them to haul junk. What it cost to get trash removed here is beyond reason. A pickup load is sixty dollars if you haul it yourself. Sanford and Son are rumored to just take the junk up to their hideout and dump it, which would be very lucrative since they would not have to pay the steep dump fees. Up near their compound signs are everywhere warning people to stay away. A lot of the junk they have lined the road with and are calling it folk art. Most of the people around here fear them, so they get away with the scam. (Please note pictures of Lord Kadizzle's belly have been digitally enhanced to make it appear larger)

Commander gets wonderful Birthday present

If you are a regular reader of this blog you know in the morning Lord Kadizzle becomes Hoppy. Hoppy gets coffee for The Commander while she sits in bed reading. For The Commanders birthday Lord Kadizzle hired a full time servant for The Commander. Jeeves is the new household help.

Erin Opens Office in Hospital

The old Snoocher Bear is in the Hospital so much lately she has just moved her office there. Currently she is in phase two of testing the digestive system. Liquids seem to be making it through the maze. Right now we just fired some solid food down the tubes and will have to wait several hours to see if this experiment is a success. Fran as usual is traveling the country. The Commander turned 59 today, so any suggestions for a perfect gift for the commander will be welcome. The Commander insist on staying with Erin 24 hours a day when Erin is in the repair shop, so she is on call to fill in for the CEO at Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital.

Health Care? We need big Change.

This month Lord Kadizzle has been in the hospital three times. Not for himself, but for his poor daughter. Since the original day Erin lost a kidney in a basketball accident until today, her total medical cost for the accident are approaching two hundred thousand dollars. Thank god for medical insurance. What would this have done to a family with no insurance. A good friend of our daughter Megan from Hazen had no insurance. She is now bankrupt, and in desperate need of surgery. She has a colostomy that should be removed, however she cannot have it removed because she has no insurance. Don't get me wrong, we have excellent doctors in this country. Erin would be up the creek without the fine doctors who are treating her. What about the person who has no medical insurance? In the United States you are virtually assured of being broke the rest of your life if you have a major medical problem and no insurance. This country desperately needs national health care. Study the issue for yourself, and you will see why virtually every advanced country in the world provides health care for its citizens. As more people become unemployed more families will become destitute because of medical problems. One reason the auto industry in this country is broke is because of the high cost of insurance. Ignore what I say, but if you or your child gets in a medical fix, you will remember what I am writing here. It pains me to think of Megan's young friend whose life has been ruined by the American Medical system. She is a bright young girl with an economic burden and a condition that will plague her for her whole life because Americans have bought into the great lie.

Bush wanted Obama to win

No matter how cold hearted Lord Kadizzle is to old Dubbya, he did have a pang of sympathy for the man today. Watching George at his last news conference one could almost think he finnally got it. Bush was touched by the black people with tears in their eyes election night. Secretly I think Bush was glad Obama got elected. It is hard for me to say, but I think he does have a heart, a mind is all he lacks.

It was the best of times, It was the worst of times

The prospect of being grandparents certianly is the best of times, but poor old Erin has been going through hell with this pregnancy. Last night we came to the hospital for the third time this month. After her emergency surgery early in the month we have made two more trips back to what has become our home away from home. At this point they cannot determine if she has a gall bladder problem, or some kind of bowel obstruction. Adhesions may be the culprit in the background. When she eats it makes her very sick and puts her in great pain. Hopefully we will get through this one more time. Our annual trip south has been put on hold until we get this resolved.

Lord Kadizzle Pees Pants Laughing

One luxury at the mountain retreat is a good supply of reading material. Rolling Stone Magazine is a favorite. If anyone has more disdain for the Decider than Lord Kadizzle it would be Matt Tiabbi. In the new issue he writes a fictional account of an interview with The Decider titled "Bush Apologizes". You can read the first couple of pages online, but it you can get your hands on the whole article it is a good laugh. One favorite scene is Bush, Cheney, and Rummy trying to decide if water boarding is really torture. They ask the houseboy at the White House to let them try it on him. Rummy gets carried away and holds a cigarette lighter to the guys ear while Cheney is drowning him with ice water. They have to explain to Rummy that is not part of it.

Baby Gilbert

Out of the clear blue sky Megan named Erin's pumpkin Baby Gilbert. Becoming a Granpa has been like climbing a mountain. Baby Gilbert is in his part of the house, while the rest of the house is in turmoil. We are about six months into the pregnancy and just completed the second emergency run to the hospital. When Baby Gilbert comes of age I am sure he or she ( Fran is insisting on surprise, Snoocher desperately wants to know) will be told of the travails of their incubation.

Now we are up in the mountains waiting to blast off for AZ. Presumably the Snoocher Bear is at least temporarily cured. The Commander will insist on being on hot standby in case Erin burps, so we will always have to camp with a phone signal. Hazen just got hit by another winter blast. The prospect of springs floods increases every day. In North Dakota the worst scenario is melting snow on top of frozen ground. Add some rain and you have a disaster. Our house may sit about two feet above the flood plain, so being away is a bit dicy.

Snoocher Bear back home

No definitive diagnosis, but it looks like the bear had a gal bladder attack. She seems to be doing fine, and just needs to watch what she eats. The doctor said sometimes this happens during pregnancy.

Seems Impossible

Last night we rolled into Erin's driveway. This morning Lord Kadizzle and The Commander are back at the hospital with Erin. For the last three days Erin has been in pain, and last night it got worse. So at about six in the morning we headed down to the hospital with Erin. At this point it looks like a gal bladder problem, which is basically good news. The doctor just visited Erin and his suspicion is galbladder. Erin may have provoked it by eating the wrong foods. They may be doing an ultrasound right now. Hopefully she can just watch her diet and it will subside. The doctor indicated pregnancy sometimes brings on these problems. At this point hopes are high she can return home today. With some good fortune the Kadizzlator can be hooked to the back of the truck and we can head south in a couple of days.

Lord Kadizzle needs medication

Unfortunately his lordship is obsessed with the delusional that defend Bush at any price. The latest issue of Vanity Fair was laying by the bed so his lordship picked it up for a perusal. An article that was a series of quotes from people connected with the Bush administration caught his eye. The bungling incompetency was unbelievable, no matter how much you already knew. Steam escaped from the Kadizzle's ears when he read that Rumsfield said on the night of 9/11 "We need to attack Iraq, there are not enough targets in Afghanistan". He went on to say we needed to show the world "we are strong". Richard Clarke was in the room when he said it, and it was Clarke who quoted him. Colin Powell also was in the room. Powell told Rumsfield, "Iraq had noting to do with it".

The Glass Castle

Lord Kadizzle is usually overtaken by attention deficit disorder, so it takes a pretty good writer to get him through a complete book. However, when the book is good, it goes quickly. THE GLASS CASTLE is centered around Welch, West Virginia. At one time Lord Kadizzle worked in that coal mining area teaching miners the basics of coal mine safety. The story is about a dysfunctional family that lived a very hard scrabble life in a hopeless shack. Food for the kids often came from garbage cans. The story is true, and the author went on to be a very successful writer. Her brother slept under an inflatable raft because the rain came right through the roof where he slept. In West Virgina Lord Kadizzle saw first hand a lot of people who grew up the hard scrabble way. This morning when his lordship got out of bed he thought back to the family of the Robinsons. They could have been the people in this book. Twila, Henry, and Author, were three kids I went to school with. They were busted flat, and poor old Twila had some mental problems. Beside the poor kids I went to school with we had the home dingers from the children's orphanage. In my own life we had some taste of the hard scrabble life, but only for seasoning. Most amazing are the kids who fight their way out of the mess and flourish. In our current little town of Hazen there was a family of twelve kids. Their father was a nut case Baptist preacher, who occasionally beat them. Lord Kadizzle felt sorry for the bunch an tried to do what he could to help. The kids were home schooled which was a curse. Home schooling enabled the parents to just inflict more suffering on the kids. Home schooling is a sign of mental illness in most circumstances. The local bunch of kids fended for themselves and gradually most of them became successful adults. It was a lot like the story in THE GLASS CASTLE the first kid escaped and pulled the rest out. Lord Kadizzle grew up in a disfunctional family, and it had its pros and cons. It was a sink or swim life. You either went nuts, or got smarter. Many would say I chose the nuts route.

NYT Bombs the Decider again

Read "A President gone, but not forgotten". For some reason the NYT is paying tribute to the loser by having an editorial almost every day about this dud " Bush is like a salesman whose company has forgotten to tell him the product he sells has been discontinued". It is a good read with some good laughs.

Cold, blustery Dakota Day

Winky, A.K.A. The Comander is sitting in bed reading. Part of her story evolves around Welch W.Va., a place were Lord Kadizzle was involved in the underground coal industry many moons ago. Southern West Virginia is a completely different planet.

The big mission today may be a trip to Bismarck to listen to some live jazz and pee money away. Just helping the economy.

Both The Commander and Lord Kadizzle are getting the itch to get out of here. May bust out Monday or Tuesday if the Lord is willing and the roads are clear. Will go to the Snoocher Bear den, pick up the camper and head for Rimrock AZ.

Today's homework assignment (easy)

If you don't want to be a dinger, you must read Paul Krugman in the New York Times today. Lord Kadizzle being the flaming liberal he is loves Tom Friedman, but Paul Krugman is probably the favorite. They did not give him the Nobel Prize because they had noting better to do. His article today succinctly hits the nail on the head about how the Republican party is the racist party. Even the hard cores will have a difficult time refuting what he says. If anyone can get a hard core to read it, let me know what it is like when the steam comes out their ears.

"He’s got his Top Gallant Sails out”

The NYT has an article about different terms for being drunk. As a sailor, I really like this one.

Throw out the soiled underwear

Someone used that phrase in Bismarck Tribune today about getting rid of the Bush administration. Lord Kadizzle thinks there should be some sort of national holiday for getting rid of his bunch. When Obama is sworn in everyone should symbolically throw old underwear away in some kind of ceremony, or throw some shoes and yell "You Dog". Ridding ourselves of the president voted in a poll by 98% of historians as the worst in history is something we need to celebrate.

Republican Implosion

Yesterday on CNN they asked Pat Buchanan who he thought would be the ideal Republican candidate next time around. Pat was sure Sarah Palin would be the ideal choice. God bless I hope they choose that air head. If a skunk with lipstick ran it could beat the moose hunter. The mother of her daughter's sperm donor, just got busted for selling oxy-contin. The donor plans to eventually finish high school. The daughter also has dropped out. Sarah is doing a great job raising a family, she will make a good president.

As fall approached at the cement project Lord Kadizzle continually assured the head safety man "Doc", that winters in North Dakota were not that bad, and he should not be worried. Good thing Doc went south. December appears to have set a record for snow.

"You worse than sensless dog meat scum" Rush Limbaugh

With so much hope in the country as we finally get rid of George Bush, leave it to Rush Limbaugh to stir up racial hate by promoting the song "Puff the magic Negro". If anyone one reading this has an once of respect for Rush Limbaugh, I will gladly today tell you to your face I do not have an ounce of respect for you. Rush is the epitomay of what is wrong with out country. A big fat pig that is obsessed with his sense of entitlement. The Republicans are in a terrible hole, and the guy with the shovel is Rush.

"It was the best of times, It was the worst of times"

The old bitch of an Englich teacher made me memorize that line, but now I am grateful. A lot of stuff some old woman pounded into my head turned out to be a good thing, it only took me hundreds of years to realize it. So god bless a lot of those old goats who did the right thing for a bunch of teenagers that would take thirty years to be greatful. Now, to the subject. Sitting here at Erin's computer Lord Kadizzle is thinking about Erin having the best of times, and the worst of times. Erin has one of the best offices in the world. At her own house she gets to sit right where I am sitting and work. Anytime she wants she can raise her head and look out the window into the forest of the Rocky Mountians. A lot of people would kill for this view. Once in a while a fox, some elk, deer, or maybe even a bear go by. Hard to beat.

The worst of times. Erin is in the final stages of her fourth major hospital stay in her life. Thank god she is doing fine. For the third time she was split open from her strenum to below her belly button. The classic emergency incision when they are not sure what they are looking for. Each of her mishaps involved exteme pain for hours.

Now we head through four months of tension, waiting for a baby. May the best of times prevail. On a sunny morning at 8,500 ft above sea level there is a lot of hope.

Greenwood Cemetery

Some where in this cemetery most of my relatives on my mothers side are buried. The picture is just one of the many outrageous grave markers in the cemetery. The Greenwood cemetery is full of hundreds of grave markers that would today cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to duplicate. Many are small stone buildings with stained glass windows. The high school Lord Kadizzle attended was right beside this cemetery. If you ever needed flowers for a special occasion this came in handy.

Erin's Winter Castle

The Sun Also Rises

After spending a week watching my daughter recover from an extreme medical crises, which is the fourth in her life, I got up to a wonderful day in the mountains above Denver. The sky could not be bluer, The sun brighter, or the air better. Erin back to her vibrant self only added to the good in life. There is always a good day out there, and you have to wait for it to come. Sitting in the hot tub on the deck watching one more day start is hard to beat.

Race to the Bottom

Stolen from letter to NYT: Bob Herbert’s reminder of the importance of teachers and the average worker hits at a fundamental problem with our society — when given the choice to value people who are providing worthwhile services or people who exist purely to satiate their own wealth and fame, we choose the latter.

How else to describe a society that believes that the average teacher or autoworker should take a pay cut while the average millionaire shouldn’t be overly taxed?

We can point fingers at Bernard L. Madoff as a bad apple in a basically well-intentioned system, but really he is a reflection of the economy we have chosen for ourselves.

Until we face this fact, no amount of bailout money will save us from a profoundly dysfunctional society in which actors, pop stars and hedge fund managers impress us more than the people teaching our children how to read.

It is not exactly a sun rise

Everyone is asleep but Lord Kadizzle. The whole East side of Erin and Fran's house is one giant window facing the mountains and forest. Snow is coming down off and on, sometimes at a good pace. There is no sky, just a gray background. The whole scene has that Christmas card look with the snow on the trees. Last night Fran fired out an excellent prime rib cooked on the grill. The homemade horse radish sauce really drew it out. There were no fires or explosions, but just some serious good eating. After dinner the whole gang sat down to watch Dexter the serial killer. We got through two episodes, and will plow away again tonight. Erin continues to get better. We call the giant scar from top to bottom on her front side the zipper. She has been opened up a total of three times. Erin likes to say she might as well have a zipper. Right now she has twenty two stainless steel staples holding her together. Hopefully they will be out on Monday. Yesterday Erin was quite concerned part of the zipper was failing. The scar tissue made it appear that way, and we reassured her she was fine.

Explosive Prime Rib

One of Lord Kadizzles blessings in life is that he is friendly with the best cooks in the county. JoAnne Kerns is certainly one of them. Over the holidays she claims she made the best prime rib ever. Lord Kadizzle is a prime rib fan and today that is what Fran will make. Will Fran have the guts to try JoAnne's new recipe? The Kerns recipe was an accidental discovery. JoAnne used vodka to rub the roast. Her theory was that it would make the seasoning stick. Sometime after the roast was in the oven an explosion occurred followed by a fire. The recipe requires you to open the oven door and patiently wait until the fire goes out. This must be the secret, the crisping. Now I am sure she claims her prime rib explodes with flavor, which I am sure it does. Kids would surely love this recipe. Imagine sitting around at Christmas waiting for dinner to explode with an ensuing fire. Nuclear Rib Flambau will surely be the hit of the season. I can't wait until Thanksgiving to see her turkey cannon that explodes and shoots delicious stuffing right into the bowl.

Bernie Madoff = George Bush

Unless you have been living in a cave by now you have read about Bernie Madoff. Bernie engineered the biggest Ponzi Scheme ever. Reports are he bilked people out of fifty billion dollars. Everyone loved Bernie and no one could say anything bad about him. The facts spoke for themselves. Detractors were just jealous. Unfortunately the whole thing blew up when reality struck. Now our good buddy George Bush. Unfortunately reality hit before he left office. Unfortunately many of Bush's followers still have not come to grips with his fraud. Every Madoff follower can go to their statement and find out the simple truth, it is a lie the money is not there. Bush pulled the same scheme with the tax breaks for the rich lie. The strange thing is the denial. How many Americans still think and believe the Bush Ponzi scheme is a lie. Bernie at least finally admitted it was all a lie. Bush does not have the guts to come clean. That means Bernie is more of a man than George. George cannot give up the lie.

The Black Fox

The Black fox just went through the yard. Erin and Fran have seen it in the past. Erin first saw it months ago, however Fran and others were doubtful there was such a thing. Now Lord Kadizzle can say for sure there is. For a fox it is pretty good sized, but for sure that is what it is.

Today's Assignment

Be sure to read Tom Friedman's article in the NYT today. There will be a test.

At last the snoocher bear will be home today

Yesterday was supposed to be the great return of Erin to her den, but some minor complications put it off until today. Fran will run down the mountain and pick up The Commander and Erin. Lord Kadizzle will assist in grocery shopping. A slight skiff of snow fell so there may be some driveway work. Now, the march continues toward the birth of Baby Gilber, or as Megan has now named the child Oliver Twist in honor of the twisted intestine that just about did us in. If the child is a girl presumably it will be Olivia Twist.

Shoe Sales Soaring, Kadizzle would like to have a pair.

The company that makes the shoes thrown at George Bush is having a land office business. They have hired and additional one hundred staff to meet demand. The shoe is popular in the middle east, but is sure to be a hit here. Lord Kadizzle wants the extra heavy model with the steel toe. Kadizzle can then use it for work and politics.

Snoocher Bear will return to Den to work on cub project

If God is willing, and the creeks don't rise Erin will come home today. Fran and Lord Kadizzle have spiffied up the place. Somewhat cold here in the mountains, but not nearly as bad as the Dakota's. Erin's digestive system kicked into gear with the help of an IED (improvised explosive device i.e. a suppository). Erin is really doing well and looking good. Erin is good at recovering. When Erin had her original accident in High School, she went on to win the state class B hurdles the next spring. An amazing feat by any standard. We were hoping to fly Megan out to join us for Christmas, but does not look promising. Alls well that ends well.

Oh, by the way

After being in the hospital for three days Erin was reciting the endectomies she has had. An endectomy must be something they took out our you. The nurse was listening to Erin's recital and said "Oh by the way they took your appendix out". No one bothered to mention it earlier. So Erin got to add that to her list. If she were a turkey, she would be labeled parts missing. The recovery is going great. Erin has eaten toast and eggs so it they make it through, it will be praise the lord and pass the ammunition, or perhaps it should be praise the lord and pass the gas.

Erin doing great.

The doctor just stopped in and said Erin could try some jello etc. It cheered her up a lot. So things are looking good, and perhaps she will be out by Monday.

The ultimate scum

In our current crises Lord Kadizzle has little to do, but peruse magazines. Rolling Stone had and article titled "Bush's final F..... You". The article went through the steps he is taking in his last days to mess up everything he can for the environment, Obama, and feather the nest of his friends. I didn't even bother to read the article, I have heard the same on the news shows. Of course all news programs are left wing. It is amazing that the man who has done more to ruin the future, the present, and anything else he can, just doesn't get it. He has no sense of shame whatsoever. Bush is incapable of realizing what a hopeless case he is. A classic indication of his mentality was the denial he gave the Obama family when they asked to use Blair house so his kids could start school on time. Bush said it was unavailable. It was reserved for parties he was having at the end of his disastrous reign. What person in their right mind would celebrate the end of the worst presidency in history. When Bush is gone it will be the like the end of an eclipse, the sun will shine again.

The Fart Heard around the World

This is the third day in the hospital with Erin. When her intestinal tract starts to work she can eat. The poor girl has not had any food for four days. Doctors say they need to hear noise from her intestines to indicate they are working. A good signal would be a fart. Normally these fellows are not welcome, but this one will be the best Christmas present the Kadizzles could have. So patiently we wait for the event that will change the world for the better. So if you feel you home shake and a mild breeze you know it will be a victory for modern medicine. Weather in Denver is a little chilly, but it is a sunny day.

Please Read Paul Krugman Today

Angering the right wing seems to be one of Lord Kadizzles favorite hobbies. The intent isn't really to anger, it is to educate. How arrogant. Who cares? If anyone was the economic hero of Lord Kadizzle, it would be Paul Krugman the nobel prize winner. Read his article in NYT Today.. Krugman has put into words concisely what needs to be said about the culture of greed the right wing has created in this country and how it has devastated us.
