The Lake Hike

A nice picture from the Butcher Jones hike yesterday, around part of Lake Seguaro, North of us on The Salt River.

Another Day in the Desert

Now Ed has moved in as our neighbor. This is our little corner of paradise. Yesterday we hiked the Butcher Jones trail. Today has pretty much been a day off. The Commander and Lord Kadizzle just finished a short walk down to the river. Two girls have a contract to monitor an eagle's nest there from sunrise to sunset. The father eagle has left the mother to raise the baby alone. It could be he had to leave the area to look for work because of the mess created by the Republicans with the economy. With the spotting scope you can clearly see what is going on in the nest from a half mile away.

Another day another hike to Hackberry Spring

The Commander will not give up

The Commander insist we hike every hike in the Superstition Mountains. This means we hike from seven to nine miles per day, everyday for the last two weeks. Lord Kadizzle wants to bust out and head north. Hopefully in a day or two we will. May go up to the Verde River and kayak.

Wild Horses on the Salt River

Ruth and Roger pass the wild horses on the Salt River. Apparently people who have no practical way to get rid of horses let them loose in the Tonto National Forest. On the river float yesterday we came across a herd getting a drink. Sometimes they come through the campground. Took on some water in a bigger rapid yesterday, but it was a very nice trip. We went from the dam clear to the next dam. Ruth saw a lot of trout in some areas. Today we may go to the art fair in Fountian Hills, and then scout for a new camp spot with Indian Ruins over on the Agua Fria.

The gated community

Salt River Adventure

Yesterday we had a great trip with Ruth and Roger down the Salt River. The weather could not have been better, the water was perfect. We liked it so much we will probably go again today. The Kadizzles have decided they are living on a culdesac in a gated community. Sure you may have to manually unlock the gate, and sure the culdesac may just be a corner of a parking lot out in god's land, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Someone please give me a clew how to spell cul de sac.

Looking for a home

The Kadizzles drove around north of Phoenix looking for a new camp site. The fine fellow who took us canoeing yesterday offered to let us use the canoe to come down the Salt River. We may give it a try tomorrow. Looks like we may stay put until things warm up a little.

Massacre Ground Hike

The Kadizzles were joined by the Donovans, and Dennys to look for the Massacre Ground. Supposedly the Indians shot some gold miners here. Nice hike. Lauren and Pat had to turn back before the waterfall. The water fall was a nice side trip. Monday or Tuesday we will probably head for new ground.

19 miles in two days, worn out.

Yesterday, Ruth, Roger, The Commander, and Lord Kadizzle did a 9.5 mile forced march. The scenery was wonderful and it was a very nice hike, but today we need a rest. The weather has been excellent, and again today the sky is fair. Ruth and Roger sat in front of this nice little water fall for a picture and a rest. Strange to see so much water flowing in the desert.

Thursday, February 12, 2009

The Commander had a strenuous forced march yesterday of ten miles. It was a nice hike with wonderful scenery. Another hike today with Ruth and Rodger. Looks like it will be a nice day. May hike tomorrow with the Donovans.

Kadizzles roll into Phoenix

We just finished dinner with our old neighbors Ken and Terry Peterson in Mesa. Yesterday we ate with our sailing friends Ruth and Roger Denny. The camper is up at Usery Park. We will probably meet with the Donovans and Garceau's on Wed for dinner. After Wed we may head out. Will probably leave Usery and go to a campground by lake a littler farther north.

Kadizzles at Acrosanti

At The Commanders orders we landed the Bigfoot at Acrosanti today. The Commander is talking about camping in the parking lot. Later perhaps pictures and an update. If we leave here today we will probably camp north of Mesa, maybe at Usery, or in a camp ground up the road a ways.

Very Strange Find

On Saturday's exploration hike Lord Kadizzle looked across the canyon and saw what appeared to be an Indian ruin in a very precipitous place. Something about the ruin did not look right. The stone work was not quite right. Sunday the group decided to make a difficult hike to the ruin. One at the site their was none of the usual pot shards or any other indication of occupation. Indeed the rock work was wrong. The strangest thing was what appeared to be an antenna in the middle of the rock circle. Why someone put an antenna in the middle of a rock circle in the middle of nowhere is a real mystery. If anyone knows anything about antennas let me know what kind of antenna this is. It appears to have been there for some time. It may have been some sort of remote sensing device, and it is possible someone took the main components.

Moving to the Aqua Fria River

If all goes well the wagon will move about forty miles south into the wilderness of the Aqau Fria River. May be phone service, but I doubt it, will certainly be no wi-fi. From there we may head down toward Phoenix.

Assignment for Sunday

Read the New York Times editorials today, all excellent. Dowd finally has a home run. Another article slams the worlds most sorrowful man, Rush Limbaugh, the mother of all pigs. Read how the Republicans are cow towing to the gas bag.
