The National Association for the Advancement of Humanity

Sometimes Talk Isn’t Enough

Changing the world usually takes more than talk. At some point, action has to step in. Yesterday at our Donuts meeting, a candidate for State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Ruiz, came to speak. Afterward, I teamed up with another member to sponsor an hour of radio time for her.

That’s when the debate started: Should the sponsorship run through our Donuts group, or should the money go directly to Dr. Ruiz?

Now, here in Payson, Arizona, the word Democrat is enough to make many MAGA folks shut down their brains. If they sense that a program is backed by Democrats, they’ll tune out before a single word gets through. To sidestep that problem, we settled on having the sponsorship come from the National Association for the Advancement of Humanity.

And what exactly is that? Well, truth be told, it’s a Kadizzle invention—a convenient vehicle for moments like this. When you speak at a Payson town hall, you have to list who you represent. No point in showing up as just “yourself,” so I usually put down that I represent the National Association for the Advancement of Humanity. And since Payson has about 16,000 people, I write that I represent all of them.

It might sound like a stunt, but there’s more to it. An association—real or imagined—can sometimes have more influence than a lone blogger. An association can potentially raise money, make statements, and carry political weight that ordinary chatter can’t.

So, the experiment continues. If you’d like to follow along or even join in, wander over to naftaoh.blogspot.com.
